Her Story
Queen Ana Nzinga ruled the kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba, in what is now Angola, while the transatlantic slave trade was devastating Central Africa.
In a famous story from her negotiations with the Portuguese, they offered her no chair, a deliberate insult. Nzinga had an attendant kneel, sat as if on a throne, and negotiated as an equal. She left with a treaty.
When diplomacy failed, she fought, leading her armies personally well into her sixties. She allied with the Dutch against Portuguese slave traders and made Matamba a refuge for people escaping enslavement. For four decades, she held the line. She died in 1663, around 80 years old, still a queen.
The Strategist decides who she needs to be: diplomat, warrior, ally, queen. Then she becomes it.
Which warrior are you? Take the quiz. Girls will be girls.
